This auction is for 2015 Twin Star 150mm f/1400mm (6-inch f/9.3) short tube reflector complete with the dual mounting rings and dovetail plate, dust lid for the telescope, 6×30 finder scope, and both dust caps for the finder. This is all original stock. Before you can use this telescope, you will need to have a mount on hand for it to ride on AND you need to have a 1.25-inch eyepiece handy. That’s all. This reflector is just like the early Orion Short Tube 4.5 reflectors they introduced back in 1998 from Suzhou Synta of China. They were an f/4 to f/4.6 rich field optical system incorporating a Jones-Bird design; a built-in 2x barlow/field flattener at the base of the focuser. Now you have a f/9.3 with a f/4.6 body; compact, but not a closed optical system like a schmidt. Pluses: Very short, only 19.5″ longPush pull aluminum cell is not easily jarred out of collimationEasy to mount, easy to handleEasy to safely puff dust out with air (not canned!)No air current issuesSmaller equatorial mounts handle it well (EQ-2 and CG3 do fine)Minuses: Barlowed means low power views are not easy to obtainCollimation needs to be excellent at all times or images will sufferMirror is a f/4 to f/4.6 parabolic mirror that acts like a spherical mirrorFinder isn’t the best qualityDoesn’t cooperate well with Kellners, MAs, Erfles, or Konigs because of compressed light coneSince it is already barlowed, it doesn’t get along with most barlows They are still a good reflector for what they were designed to do and being a city guy, it does nicely on the Moon, brighter planets and main deep sky objects. It is the same class as most Celestron Comet Catcher Jrs and the C6 of the 1980s. It is not going to be your default split Izar optical system and you are not going to break the Dawes Limit on Jupiter in even prime seeing, but it will show you some good views.I know I’d have loved one of these as a teen over my Jason 60mm Discoverer, but these weren’t around yet. The TwinStar 150 1400 is a commonly-sold hybrid reflector design and all comes from China. It is a convoluted maze from actual telescope factory-to-telescope brand name sold-to-you, but it goes as follows: Primary manufacturer: Chongqing Dontop Optics Co. (CDOC) Telescopes branded, but all sourced from CDOC: Baytronix Visionking SvBONY Seben Bresser Barska Galileo (not all models) Kson (not all models) Aside from Barska, Galileo, and Kson, all the above mentioned brand names carry the EXACT 150mm F/1400mm short tube hybrid reflector with same-components ring assembly, finder scope system, and focuser size. This particular TwinStar model came in blue or black in the 150 1400 format and either rode on a EQ-2 variant equatorial mount, the iOptron SmartStar Cube E or iOptron SmartStar Cube G. Materials: nylon and polyvinyl chloride hard plastics, cast aluminum, steel, optical glassOptics: plate glass primary and secondary mirrors and standard coatings. Fully coated on finder scopeFocuser barrel size: 1.25-inchesTotal length of telescope: 19.50-inchesWeight of telescope with finder scope: 7 pounds 14 ounces The rings assembly this comes with is very well made and durably built of cast aluminum and steel hardware. The dovetail plate the rings are attached to CAN BE removed and you can simply mount the rings directly to your own small or medium-sized equatorial mount. You could even mount them to a universal adapter plate by Losmandy, BT Technologies, or Astro Tech and use it on much larger equatorial mounts. The dovetail plate this comes with will work with many small altazimuth and equatorial mounts like the Orion VersaGo, the Celestron CG4, or the EQ-3 by above mentioned CDOC; and obviously it will mount effortlessly on many iOptron mounts. So as you can see, getting this TwinStar onto a mount is easy and has lots of versatility. Packed with great care. Combined shipping not offered due to fragility risks. This package is fully insured. For international, this can only go priority or faster due to size. For my domestic customers, the shipping prices are based on the farthest points from my home; the states ME, NH, NY, NC, VA, DE, CT, RI, MA, SC, FL, HI, AL, GA, and NJ. If your address is closer than these states you’ll get a small, partial shipping refund the day your mount is shipped.
