The Astronomy tower is one of the most iconic locations in the Harry Potter series. It is the highest tower in Hogwarts and has a perfect view of the night sky. It is also a place where Professor Sinistra teaches astronomy classes.
The astronomy tower has appeared in several stories of the Harry Potter series, including Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It is accessed by a steep spiral staircase.
In the first book, Harry and Hermione smuggle the dragon Norbert up to the Astronomy tower with the help of Harry’s Invisibility Cloak. However, on their way back, they forget the cloak and are caught by Mr Filch.
There are two main entrances to the astronomy tower: an entrance in the Entrance Hall and a door in the Tower itself (PS14, OP31). The Astronomy Tower is the tallest structure in the castle.
It has the perfect view of the night sky and is a great place to observe stars and planets. It is also a great location for Quidditch tournaments.
The tower also played an important role in the Order of the Phoenix. In the book, Fifth years who took the Astronomy practical O.W.L.s held their exams atop the tower at night, and it was during this time that they were attacked by Ministry officials who retaliated and wounded Hagrid in his hut.
In the film adaptation of the same, Ron Weasley and Lavender Brown are seen descending the stairs in a turret of the tower together. They are later seen in a cave where they suspect the presence of a Horcrux.
Despite being the highest tower in Hogwarts, the Astronomy Tower is not the tallest building at the castle, as other movie sets used different towers to represent Hogwarts. It is located in the east part of the castle and is not visible from Hagrid’s hut.
It is located directly over the Transfiguration Courtyard, which changes shape from the movie to the books and video games. This was done to show that the courtyard was still a working space, rather than a dark and dingy area.
The astronomy tower was also the site where Harry Potter’s father Dumbledore died, and it is believed that he fell to his death from the tower as well, though this has not been proven in the films. This is because Dumbledore had been killed by the killing curse sent by Snape, and the blast did not send him down from the tower as he was already dead.
The astronomy tower was also the site of a major battle between Harry and the Death Eaters during the book, which is referred to as the “Battle of the Tower”. This battle mainly occurred in the tower’s corridor. It was here that Dumbledore was killed by Severus Snape with the Killing Curse, and it was there where the other Death Eaters began to pour in.
