This auction is for a 1988 Orion Telescopes (Towa of Japan) EQ-2 equatorial mount altitude lock assembly. It is all original to code and includes the master bolt with removable lever, the black fender washer, and the opposite side slotted bolt. Please note that the equatorial mount in the last (3) photos is not part of this auction. It is merely helping you visualize where these parts install on the applicable mounts. The washer is steel, the removable lever is chrome plated steel, the master bolt central threaded shaft is steel, the upper lever assembly is chrome plated brass, and the slotted bolt is chrome plated steel. This entire assembly is exactly 5.8 ounces; so pretty dense. These are the essential components that fit between your small equatorial base tines that affix the polar axis angle at your current observing location. So you lift upwards to release the lock, move the entire upper head assembly till the dial points to your latitude, then you push down on the lock till the mount rests firmly. Without these bolts your equatorial mount will immediately droop downwards till it rests on the horizon. They are not easy to damage, but if yours is compromised, or it is missing, the mount is useless. And they were never offered as a replacement purchase. If you look at the last photos, you will see which equatorial mount base tines these bolts work with AS WELL as visual orientation on how they are to be installed. Master bolt: M12-1.75Side slotted bolt: #5/16-18 Your EQ-2 mount will have threads running into its cast aluminum base. If these bolts match those female threads, you’re all set. The Towa EQ-2 style mount was sourced directly from them for many decades. They also catered to brand names like Orion Telescopes, Penncrest, Sans And Streiffe, Simmons, Selsi, Tasco, Bushnell, Jason, Celestron, and Parks. And long after Towa ended production of those mounts, Synta of China continued the process, creating nearly 100% identical mounts down to the plating. They are nearly impossible for the non-collector to see difference in. That said, any EQ-2 style mount has MANY interchangeable parts. So just because this hardware is from Japan doesn’t mean it won’t fit, for example, your 1999 Celestron Firstscope 114 EQ. Check my measurements and go from there. As far as I know, this bolt assembly will NOT work with EQ-1, also known as CG2, mounts as they have smaller bolts since they are weaker mounts. Packed with great care. Combined shipping offered.
