Astronomy Symbols

Astronomy symbols are used to represent the planets, the zodiac signs and constellations. They are also used in almanacs and astrological publications.

The zodiac is a series of twenty-four numbered signs that represent a person’s personality, character and life path. Each sign is associated with a different element and planet, as well as a specific time of year. For example, Leo is the lion’s sign and is associated with fire. Gemini is the twins’ sign and is associated with air, while Sagittarius is the archer’s sign and is associated with the planet Jupiter.

Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the zodiac and is the symbol of the archer, a centaur in Greek mythology. The symbol consists of an arrow that moves diagonally upwards from left to right, intersected by a shorter diagonal line moving downwards from left to right.

Pluto is the dwarf planet that was demoted to a dwarf planet in 2006. The symbol for this planet is a combination of P and L, which are the first two letters in its name and the initials of Percival Lowell, an American astronomer who discovered the planet.

Mars is the planet in the solar system between Earth and Jupiter. Its astrological symbol is an unfilled circle, with an arrow emanating from it that points upwards to the right. In European tradition, Mars is associated with war and strength, while in Indian tradition, Mars is associated with aggression and power.

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and is associated with power, wealth, wisdom, prosperity and generosity.
