Astronomy Forum

Astronomy Forum is a web community for people interested in telescopes and space. Users can discuss the latest technology and features, as well as find answers to common questions. Some of the forums also focus on sharing the science of the cosmos with the general public. These activities can range from sidewalk astronomy to guerrilla astronomy using iPads. The site offers a comprehensive list of links to other sites, as well.

The Macarthur Astronomy Forum is a monthly public meeting organised by the Society providing leading national and international professional astronomers with a platform to address the Forum, as well as the general public. The Forums (previously known as the General Astronomy Forum) have been held since 1996 at Western Sydney University’s Cambelltown campus, with free admission.

This is a place to talk about all types of telescopes and their accessories, including eyepieces, barlows, filters, mounts and computerised telescopes. It’s a great place to discuss your favourite scopes and share observing reports. It is not a place to discuss photography equipment – those topics belong in the Imaging Forums.

A friendly place to discuss planetary & solar system object observing. Observing reports and images are welcome! Please note that if you are observing in daylight, it is best to discuss these observations in the Daylight Astronomy Forum.

Whether you are an experienced or beginning astrophotographer, this is the place to discuss your rig and get tips from others. Please note that discussions involving general purpose digital cameras should instead go in the Beginning or Experienced DSO Imaging Forums.

Discussion about the latest news in astronomy, as well as a place for newcomers to ask questions and receive help from others. Please keep all discussions civil and respect other members’ views – this is a science based sub, and pseudoscience (Creationism, the Electric Universe or Flat Earth theories, Moon Landing conspiracy theory, etc.) will be removed.

A place to discuss the latest in astronomical research, including but not limited to: variable stars, pulsars, quasars, black holes, gamma ray bursts, AGNs and exoplanets.

This is the place to discuss all things related to astronomical software and applications. This includes spectrographs, CCD imagers, plotters and more. This is a friendly place to ask any question you may have, as well as give others a helping hand with the software you use!

A place to discuss the basics of astronomical observation, including but not limited to: identifying celestial objects, finding them with your telescope, setting up for observations and making notes on what you observed. This is NOT the place for advanced astrophotography techniques such as narrowband imaging and guiding, which should be discussed in the Imaging Forums. Please read the guidelines before posting!
